Board of Trustees

It is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees to establish the policies, in accordance with Florida Statutes and State Board of Education Rules, by which the mission of the College is accomplished. It is the President’s responsibility to implement these policies through the College administration, faculty and staff.

The North Florida Community College Board of Trustees is composed of nine members appointed by the Governor: three members are from Madison County; two members are from Suwannee County; and one each from Hamilton, Lafayette, Jefferson and Taylor Counties.

The Board of Trustees is granted authority as a body; no individual Board member may take official action without the consent of the entire Board.

The Board of Trustees conducts open meetings in accordance with Florida’s “Government in the Sunshine Law,” which stipulates that all discussions of college business by two or more Board members must be advertised and open to public attendance.

Board meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The Trustees determine each August the meeting schedule for the coming year.


The District Board of Trustees of North Florida Community College Plans Executive Session

The District Board of Trustees of North Florida Community College will conduct an Executive Session at the beginning of its regularly scheduled Board meeting on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Board Room located at Building 9 at North Florida Community College to discuss ongoing litigation. The Executive Session will begin before the matters on the agenda for the Regularly Scheduled February 20th Meeting. It is estimated to begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. and will last for approximately thirty (30) minutes.

The subject matter of the executive session is to discuss litigation strategy and settlement relating to the lawsuit The District Board of Trustees of North Florida Community College v. City of Madison. The discussions in this session shall be confined to settlement negotiations or strategy sessions related to litigation expenditures as to these litigation matters. The session will be recorded by a certified court reporter. The meeting will last approximately thirty (30) minutes and will be attended by Board members, Chairman Michael R. Williams; Vice-Chair, Ricky N. Lyons; Ann “Sharon” Benoit; J. Travis Coker; Sandra Haas; David Howell; William Washington; Al Williams; Lloyd “Gary” Wright; Board Counsel, Robert J. Sniffen; President John Grosskopf; Special Litigation Attorneys Greg Stewart and Heath Stokley; and the certified court reporter. 

Following the closed session, the Board will reconvene in open session at which time, Board Chairman Williams will announce the termination of the executive session. The Board, at that time, shall take such action as is necessary on this matter and will begin its regularly scheduled Board meeting.
