Peer Online Writing Consultation

NFCC students will receive a detailed peer review of their written assignment, such as a paragraph or an essay, regardless of the stage of the drafting process and subject.

NFCC peer tutors will not edit the written assignment but will insert comments within the student's submission and address the student's most common grammar and mechanics issues.

An online writing consultation form must be submitted with a sample of your writing. A Writing submission lacking a consultation form will not be revised until the consultation form is received.

Submitting an online writing consultation implies that you have read and agreed to the terms and procedures established by the ASC Tutor Lab.

Please complete the following steps to submit a sample of your writing.

Step 1: Read and accept our terms and conditions Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions:

  • During your online consultation, your peer tutor will first read the information submitted and will then respond, as a critical reader, to what you have written.

  • English peer tutors will try to make sure that you are responding to the assignment and that you are writing a well organized and effectively developed paper before they focus on the mechanics of the paper.

  • English peer tutors will not be able to comment on every aspect of your draft. Papers with excessive deficiencies will not be revised online. Your peer tutor will suggest that you attend an in-person tutoring session.

  • The English peer tutors at NFCC will not edit or proofread the essay for you. Instead, they will offer instruction on the writing process and teach you how to edit your own work.

  • Allow up to one business day for a tutor to read and respond to your essay. Note that the Tutor Lab is not open on weekends. If we receive your submission on Friday after 2:00 p.m., the peer tutor will respond by Monday, before 5:30 p.m.

  • When the tutors are overwhelmed with face-to-face tutoring requests, they may not be able to respond to your request in the next 24 hours. We will let you know if this is likely to happen. If your paper is due soon, visit the Tutor Lab for a face-to-face consultation.

  • If you have a question about documenting sources, check out the Valencia College's Citation Guide.

  • It is the student’s decision to accept or decline any advice or information received through the online consultation. Under no circumstances are English peer tutors responsible for the student’s grade.

  • English peer tutors will make every effort to help you to improve your work; however, neither peer tutors or the ASC Tutor Lab take any responsibility for the submission of the  assignment and its grade.

  • Vulnerable Persons Act:  All employees, including peer tutors, of North Florida Community College are required by law to report any type of abuse of minors that they witness or become aware of through written or verbal communication, regardless of the time that has passed since the abuse occurred.  Students are advised that any information, written or verbal, communicated in the online writing consultation, or to the peer tutor in any way, in regards to any willful act or threatened act that results in any physical, mental, or sexual abuse, injury, or harm that causes or is likely to cause harm to the physical, mental, or emotional health of another to be significantly impaired is subject to disclosure as required per Florida State Statutes.
